The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is set to graduate 3,567
students during its 32nd convocation ceremony, with 120 First Class degree holders among the graduates.
This was revealed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde during a press conference organized as part of activities for the institution’s 32nd convocation ceremony at the university’s Red Chamber on Wednesday.
“For the First Degree/ Diploma category: we have 120 in First Class, 1,626 in Second Class ( Upper Division), 1,624 in Second Class ( Lower Division), 164 in Third Class and 33 in Pass.
According to Prof. Kehinde, the upcoming convocation is a significant milestone, with graduates from various faculties, set to receive their degrees.
“The 32nd Convocation Ceremonies shall witness the graduation of 3,567 students across various faculties, including 120 First Class graduates. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students, staff and management ,” he said.
In addition to the undergraduate degrees, the Vice-Chancellor announced that 440 higher degrees would be awarded. This includes 136 Ph.D. degrees, 274 Masters, and 30 Postgraduate Diplomas, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.
Prof. Kehinde also highlighted FUNAAB’s strides in digital innovation, with the migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance data security and reduce downtimes. Other advancements include the introduction of a scalable Enterprise Resource Portal (ERP), a digital admissions ranking system, and an automated system for student union elections.
“The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has made remarkable progress in its digital transformation journey, which has enhanced efficiency, security, and accessibility in our operations,” Prof. Kehinde added.
The Vice-Chancellor says no Fewer than 1,300 FUNAAB students have accessed loan under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND, expressing hope for an increased number of beneficiaries in 2025.
Prof Kehinde dropped the hint in response to questions from the mediamen.
He explained that NELFUND programme initiated by the federal government to assist students in their educational pursuit is currently touching many lives positively, pointing out that, “FUNAAB have verified and screened 1,300 students that benefited from NELFUND. We are currently verifying 1,638 students for 2024 and 2025, and we hope for an increased number of beneficiaries.”
Kehinde observed that despite challenges in 2024, the University implemented strategic measures to maintain its high standards. He emphasised the University’s dedication to fostering research, innovation and producing exceptional graduates who contribute positively to the society.
He assured that the University would continue to create avenues for students academic, financial and moral employment.
Additionally, FUNAAB is expanding its international collaborations in veterinary research, plant breeding, and stem cell research. In agriculture, the university is working with private partnerships.
As the convocation approaches, Prof. Kehinde reaffirmed the university’s commitment to becoming a leader in higher education in Nigeria. “Our desire to be number one in Nigeria is on course. We are taking deliberate steps to position ourselves for global ranking,” he stated
