Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his commitment to Middle-Belt unity and true federalism, emphasizing the region’s vital role in national governance.
The Governor made the pledge during a condolence visit by the Middle Belt Elders Forum in company of the President of the Forum Dr. Bitrus Pogu and other National working Committee members to honor the former FCT Minister and Middle-Belt patriot, late Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Useni.
Governor Mutfwang, expressed gratitude for the support shown to him by the Middle-Belt forum while also recognizing the contributions of the group in nation building and that of national figures like Sir Edwin Clark and Pa Ayo Adebanjo towards national unity and development.
Mutfwang reflected on the historical injustices faced by Middle Belt leaders and urged stakeholders to overcome internal divisions. He advocated for decentralization in governance, particularly in cultural administration.
The Governor revealed that Middle Belt governors are discussing ways to strengthen the region’s position for better representation and influence nationally.
Chairman of the Elders Council, retired Major General Zamani Lekwat, echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of recognizing the Middle Belt’s role as a bridge between the North and South.
He reiterated the need for restructuring to ensure equal representation and opportunities for all regions to contribute to national development.
The event was witnessed by members of the Middle Belt Elders Forum, the National Working Committee, and state officials, including the SSA to Governor Mutfwang on Middle Belt Nationalities, Hon. Dan Kwada, as well as other government officials.
