The Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, on Tuesday led a high-powered delegation of government officials and traditional rulers to Benue State on a condolence visit following the recent massacre in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, that claimed the lives of several innocent civilians.
Governor Sule, who was received at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, condemned the killings in strong terms and stressed the importance of inter-state collaboration in preventing such tragedies. He called for improved intelligence sharing, early warning systems, and joint peacebuilding mechanisms between the two states.
“As neighbours, we must work together to ensure that peace and security are maintained across our borders,” the governor said. “Nasarawa State stands with the people of Benue in this moment of grief and will continue to support efforts aimed at securing justice and peace.”
As part of the visit, Governor Sule announced a donation of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (₦150,000,000) to the Benue State Government to support victims, their families, and recovery efforts.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barr. Samuel Ode, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the show of solidarity. He reaffirmed the commitment of Benue State to work closely with Nasarawa in sustaining peace and strengthening their historic ties.
We gathered that the Nasarawa delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, members of the State Executive Council, heads of security agencies, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, as well as other respected traditional rulers.
