The Kebbi First Lady, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, inspected her demonstration garden at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, in the spirit of the Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Scheme of the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
Among crops under cultivation are maize, vegetables, tomatoes, citrus fruits, sweet and Irish potatoes as well as other varieties.
Hajiya Zainab Nasare remarked that her garden would serve as morale booster to other women in the state to imbibe the advocacy of Nigeria’s First Lady for “Every Home a Garden”, according to a statement made available by her press secretary, Khadijat Saidu on Monday.
“A national competition will be held later in the year to select the best female gardener in the nation with a star prize of 20 million naira.
“Here in KebbI, we will organize competition at state level to select the woman with the best garden to represent Kebbi at the national event”,
“I want to encourage all women to engage in gardening to feed the family and be part of the competition”, Nasare advised.
The Kebbi First Lady also operates a fish pond in the spirit of food security.
