The Nigerian Army NA is saddened by the sudden death of one of its promising young officers Lt. Colonel S. Haruna in a domestic fire incident which allegedly involved his wife after a heated altercation. It is not to clear to clear whether the wife set him ablaze or the wife’s close

Which he reportedly poured fuel on caught fire and engulfed him in the process. But the authorities of the Nigerian Army say they have set up a probe to determine the immediate cause of death this is even as the wife has absolved herself of any culpability in the fire incident that led to her husband’s death. A statement by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer, Headquarters 2, Brigade Akwa Ibom, Capt. Lawal Bala Muhammad said the army authority was determined to get to the root of the matter. He added, “The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the general public of an unfortunate incident involving Lt S Haruna and his wife which occurred on 22 September 2025, resulting in fire burns sustained by the officer.

Following the incident, the officer was immediately evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he received comprehensive medical treatment. Despite concerted efforts by the medical team to stabilize his condition, the officer sadly passed away on 6 October 2025 while receiving care.

The Nigerian Army commiserates deeply with the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased officer and prays for the repose of his soul.

An investigation was instituted on the onset of the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident before the demise of the officer The outcome of the investigation will be made public upon its conclusion.

The Nigerian Army appreciates the support and understanding of the general public and reaffirms its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and accountability in the conduct of its personnel.”
