The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated a veteran photojournalist, Mr Kayode Okunola, on his award of a Merit Award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

Mr Okunola, a photojournalist with the Nigerian Pilot newspaper, will be conferred with the award on Friday, October 31, 2025, at an event in Abuja marking the 60th anniversary of SWAN.

Prof. Egbewole, in a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that the award is well-deserved, considering Mr Okunola’s exciting professionalism and exemplary hard work.

The Vice Chancellor said that Mr Okunola has worked and competently covered events across the State for more than three eventful decades, making him a sort of walking library of the state.

The Vice Chancellor thanked the honouree for his love and support for the University, recalling that the University of Ilorin has benefitted greatly from his sharp lenses, which had helped in boosting the University’s alluring image.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), wished Mr Okunola a more successful and rewarding career.
