Nigerians have been admonished to allow law, religion and politics to navigate their way of life to make progress.
Mahfouz Adedimeji, a Professor of Pragmatic and Applied Linguistics stated this while delivering his lecture at launch of journal tittle “Al-Maslaha” in honour of Abdulrafii Oyewumi Omotosho, a professor of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin.

Vice Chancellor, Ahman Pategi University,
discussed the theme “Law, Religion and Politics: The Responses of Islamic Jurisprudence to the Challenges of the 21st Century”.
According to him, the three concepts (Law, Religion and Politics) are crucial and valuable owing to their connectivity to human dealings in life.
He noted that Nigeria is where it is today because of what the citizens afflicted it to be, adding that the current economic hardship bedevilling Nigerians was as a result of people not abiding by the rules of law, turning politics into dirty games and not playing religious rites in an ideal and efficient manner.
The guest lecturer therefore noted that “when law is violated; there is going to be chaos, no progress could be made or achieved thus,
we have to respect the law and uphold it.”
The VC posited that politics is not a dirty game but the players determine what it turn out to be.
To tackle the current situation in the country, he said it requires response at individual, institutions and national levels.
“Individuals should abide by the law, our roles have to be played in accordance with religion, display ethical renaissance and be prayerful,” he said.
He however, advised Nigerians not to abuse or course their leaders, but rather pray to God to touch their hearts to do the needful.
Kamaldeen Imam-Temim, a lecturer at the Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin who reviewed the journal said it was meant to appreciate a man of repute and indelible.
The journal according to him comprises scholarly write-ups for promotion of academic excellence, adding that series of submissions centers on ‘Islamic Jurisprudence response to socio- economic challenges’, ‘The place of moral values in a society into economic practice’ would be useful to tackle the current challenges confronting Nigeria.
He added that, other sub-tittles borders on ‘Gender equality’ ‘Insecurity in Nigeria’, Christian/Islamic relationship: How to solve religious crises among other topics.
Imam-Temim, recommended the journal for all to tap from the wealth of knowledge and information embedded in it.
Lanre Yusuf Badmus, a professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies University of Ilorin, described professor Abdulrafii as a highly disciplined, religious and dedicated scholar, just as he commended him for his service to humanity.
Abdulrafii (Prof) through his relentless efforts at ensuring excellent performance, bestowed with several awards within and outside the country.
He thanked the Nigeria Association of Muslim Law Students, University of Ilorin for the honour and prayed to God to bless them all.
